At Whakatane Hospital we have an older building that was built in the early 60’s and originally had a flat parapet roof, this used to create all manner of leak issues so at some point a tin trough roof was built over it. This has degraded over time and has it own leak issue which in turn leak through the original roof.

We were looking at replacement options and estimated costs were in the order of $350K.

I met the team from Duraspec at last years FMANZ Conference in Wellington and had lengthy discussions about their fluid roofing product and I saw an opportunity with our leaking roof.

We decided to do a trial at the worst end of the roof to see if the product lived up to their billing. Duraspec were engaged to do this work, I found their team to be extremely easy to work with, they were more than happy to use local scaffolding contractors who we recommended, were very H&S focused which aligns with our requirements and we sealed the first section of the roof. This withstood everything the recent cyclone threw at Whakatane and zero leaks were detected.

This has led us to complete the entire roof of this 2 story building, total cost of 1/3 of the replacement estimate AND comes with a 20 year guarantee.
